Phoxim

As a broad-spectrum organophosphorus insecticide API, phoxim inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase in pests and blocks nerve conduction pathways, with contact killing, stomach poisoning and fumigation effects. It has outstanding control effect on Lepidoptera, Coleoptera pests, mites and sanitary pests, and is a commonly used API in agricultural planting, storage disinfection and public health epidemic prevention fields, which can meet the processing needs of formulations for a variety of pest control scenarios.

The current global phoxim market size is about USD 320 million, with a compound annual growth rate maintained at around 4.2%. On the demand side, the growth is most significant in major agricultural producing regions such as Southeast Asia and South America, especially the continuous release of pest control demand in rice and cotton planting belts. On the supply side, domestic enterprises account for nearly 70% of the global production capacity, and leading production enterprises are concentrated in Shandong, Jiangsu and other regions. The products are mainly for export, and there is no relevant centralized procurement policy covering them at present.

The original developer of phoxim is Bayer AG of Germany, with the original brand name Baythion, and the core compound patent expired globally in 1982. At present, the mainstream marketed formulations include emulsifiable concentrate, granules and wettable powder, with common specifications such as 40% emulsifiable concentrate and 5% granules, which have been included in the FDA Pesticide Active Ingredients Registration List. At present, 12 phoxim APIs have been approved for registration in China, and the corresponding formulation varieties including emulsifiable concentrate, powder, etc. have a total of 27 approval numbers, which can meet the use needs of domestic agriculture and sanitary disinfection fields.
