Nifuroxazide
In response to the pain point of the breeding industry that bacterial resistance of animal origin is on the rise, nifuroxazide, as a differentiated variety of nitrofuran broad-spectrum antibacterial drugs, blocks the energy metabolism pathway by inhibiting bacterial pyruvate oxidoreductase, and has inhibitory effects on Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and some protozoa. It is a commonly used drug in livestock, poultry and aquaculture for the prevention and treatment of colibacillosis, salmonellosis and coccidiosis. Meanwhile, it can be used to prevent intestinal infections in farmed animals and reduce the incidence of bacterial diarrhea, with clear clinical value in ensuring the healthy breeding of livestock and poultry and reducing breeding losses.
The global market size of veterinary antibacterial drugs maintains a steady growth trend. As a special veterinary antibacterial drug, nifuroxazide had a global market size of approximately USD 120 million in 2023, with a compound annual growth rate of around 4.2%. The current market is dominated by generic drug supplies. China is the world's largest producer of nifuroxazide API, with a production capacity accounting for more than 70% of the global total. Its products are mainly exported to Southeast Asia, South America and other regions with intensive livestock and poultry breeding. Domestic centralized procurement has not yet covered this veterinary API variety, and the market competition pattern is relatively fragmented.
The original research enterprise of nifuroxazide is Virbac, a French company, with the original trade name Nifuroxazide Virbac. The core compound patent in the EU region expired in 2004. The main dosage forms of the original product are two veterinary dosage forms: oral powder and suspension, with common specifications including 100g:2.5g and 500ml:12.5g. The relevant dosage forms have been included in the FDA Veterinary Reference Preparation Catalog. Up to now, there is no approved import record of original preparations in China. Three domestic enterprises have completed the registration of nifuroxazide API in CDE and obtained the Class A status label, and another 8 domestic veterinary nifuroxazide preparation varieties have been approved for marketing. (Data as of April 2025, please refer to the official CDE website for the latest information)
CATO provides a full set of impurity reference standards for nifuroxazide API. Most products are in stock, and orders for in-stock products placed before 16:00 will be shipped on the same day.
